Venison Swedish Meatballs

The weather dropped last week, which means comfort food for me! Probably one of my favorite cold weather comfort food meals is a beef roast and egg noodles. I was short the beef roast, so I thought this may be a close second. I paired these meatballs with egg noodles and whipped garlic mashed potatoes. It was a tasty alternative, and I loved the sauce! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 lb ground deer (or ground beef)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 & 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  1. Take your first 10 ingredients and mix well in a med. size bowl.
  2. Shape into meatballs (I made about 15.)
  3. Cook over medium heat in olive oil, browning all sides. place a lid on the skillet and cook thoroughly, stirring as needed.
  4. Once cooked, remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside. Add butter to skillet, melt. Whisk in the flour.
  5. Add beef broth & heavy cream, mustard, and Worcestershire. Stir till blended.
  6. Mix meatballs back into the skillet.
  7. Serve with egg noodles or rice.

Let me know what you think! I’d love to hear your tweaks and suggestions! What are some other dishes you’d like to see me experiment with deer meat in?
